>UTS Day Saturday, April 28, 2012 @ 2:33 PM

Yesterday Becky and I went on an excusion to UTS. It was a hands on day for women in Engineering and IT, and we ended up being the only two going o___o the other 4 decided not to go on the morning so out was a small turnout. We were to meet up at the station at 8, but my dad drove me there early for some reason and wouldn't let me go down to the station first T__T I did not have a fun time sitting there with him btw. He finally l let me go and it seems that Becky was already there. Then we waited until miss arrived and then bought our tickets. We talked for a while and when the others looked like they weren't coming, Becky called them to check. Seems no one decided to go.

It took probably close to an hour getting there by train, and out got really busy the closer we got to the city. Once at the station we dashed there cause we were already late. We got into the lecture hall and started listening to various people. We later split up into our assigned groups and had a very brief morning tea. Somehow, Becky and me luckily ended up in the same group :D or at least we assume it's like that as no other names from our school we on the roll.

The first activity was the Lego Game, which was and IT activity. We were in teams of 4 and were required to build an animal ( out of Lego ) to fit our clients requests. We worked as a team of 3 with one of our leaders who is also named Rebecca :D She's really nice and we had a fun time, probably because its lego and I've just always loved out since childhood. The activity was so fun, and our mentor for the session, Josh, reminded me of Sheldon when he first introduced himself. We worked in rounds to complete it stage by stage. We would split up, making individual parts to make it more efficient ( not that we,where thinking of that ), and at the end, put it together. If there wasn't a specific big part to build, then we'd make it better or help another person. Our product turned out well, meeting a majority of the requirements and all. During one of the rounds Rebecca (team leader) said that I have an Engineering and IT mind which makes me really glad cause I'm looking at IT :D Sadly, we had to finish and move to our next activity.

Our next activity was Rescue Robotics. It was Engineering so I was just slightly less interested, but I still had a blast. What this was about is robots that assist in rescuing victims of accidents and natural disasters and things of the sort. The robot needs to be made so that it can navigate and make decisions for itself as it cannot always stay in contact with the controller. This was really cool, and we got to try it controlling it after he told us about it. I was the first one to try probably because I,was closest and no one else wanted to go first. Well controlling it was easier because they'd made the controllers a game controller, but I was still scared of breaking it. He showed us a demonstration afterwards and I'm just thinking "it's not gonna break is it?" or something like that. Later Becky tried it as well and then they moved us to the next room to show us videos of the robot competition and talk to us more. Then we went back to bave lunch. Oh, and his accent was cool. I didn't know what it was but he said he was from the Netherlands.

Lunch was okay. We were given subway, which is not something I've really eaten before, and there were lots of veggies in it. Ew. We got first choice cause our group was out first, and once we picked, we just went somewhere to eat and I started taking out stuff I didn't want. Apparently, everyone else did the same thing. We weren't allowed to leave so the rest of the time we just hung out.

The talk we had next was one that I'd heard before when they visited our school earlier in the year. Though, this talked still had things I hadn't heard before. The scholarships are good. I was hoping to get a lot but I didn't know that you only get one. Oh wells. I'll just try and get the best I can. I think some people started falling asleep here, because it wasn't any activities and was just a talk.

Once the talk finished, we headed off to the last session. This one was "How will you change IT" I think. It was cool, and people from Microsoft were the ones holding the session. That fact itself was already so cool, because I really like the big companies. Sadly, I love Google the most and hope to work there if I go into IT or something like that. In this session they talked about what IT is, they talked about Microsoft, showed us Windows 8 and even let us try out Windows 8 tablet and phone. Next we got into groups and made our own app. We worked with someone from another school cause you needed more people per group. We made an app where can change your hairstyle before to see how it is cause you don't know what suits you so this is to see beforehand. At one point the mentor was saying something that had to do with html, and she asked if anyone knew it and I think I was the only one who knew o__o Thats cause I make my own layouts so yeah :D Later, she pointed me out asking if this has made me set on IT haha. After the session finished, we all filled out a survey which was then used for a raffle that was drawn in the grand hall. Of course I didn't get anything. I barely ever win anyway. I unlucky like that. Well, that was the end if the day. Once I got home, I just slept the whole time again like Thursday cause I'm sick :/
